Responsibilities and Duties- Participant Support Worker
Responsible for supporting Participants’ programming within their homes and community
- Support Participants (adults with intellectual/physical disabilities) at home and in community
- Teach, supervise, and support all activities of daily living
- Support individual and small groups of Participants in individual choices in all activities
- Encourage and organize activities that contribute to skill development, socialization, and fun
- Transport Participants in organizational vehicles
- Build positive, healthy relationships in the workplace
Work Environment
- Typically shift work between 9:00am and 10:00pm on weekdays and weekends
- 60 hours bi-weekly
- May experience crisis situations, which place the safety and well-being of our staff and participants in jeopardy
- May work singularly or in tandem with a Residential Counsellor
- May be required to lift in relation to household activities and physically assisting participants
- May be exposed to bodily fluids, viruses and common illness
Minimum Qualifications
- Preferred: University degree or a graduate of a recognized human services or related program
- Asset: Possession or willingness to obtain all 7 Provincial Core Competencies (Fire & Life Safety, Health & Personal Care, Medication Awareness, Individual Program Planning, Crisis Intervention, Behavioural Supports, Standard First Aid/ CPR-C) & food handler’s certificate
- Asset: Experience working with or supporting people living with physical and/or intellectual disability
- Demonstrated experience developing appropriate relationships in a helping or supporting capacity
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Asset: Alternative communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Required: Valid NS Driver’s License
- Required: Possession or willingness to attain Class 4 driver’s license
- Required: Acceptable Driving record/abstract
- Required: Suitable Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Search

Job Type: Part-time (60 hours bi-weekly)
Salary: $18.46/hour probationary; $19.82 /hour permanent
