Wake Up To Summer Breakfast & Plant Sale:

Our Breakfast & Plant Sale was held on Saturday, June 5th, 2010.  Once again the greenhouse was overflowing with beautiful hanging baskets, annuals, and fresh herb plants that sold as soon as the doors opened at 8:00 a.m.  As always, products from The Herb Garden, which specializes in herbal oils and vinegars sold to regular customers who have enjoyed the products for years.  The Bake Table was filled to the brim by wonderful volunteers who provided the goodies.  This year for the first time we included a breakfast in conjunction with the plant sale.  This was a HUGE success, serving over 200 people, and will certainly become a regular part of the Annual Plant Sale.  Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 4th, 2011 and come enjoy our delicious hearty breakfast and plant sale.

Annual Lobster Supper:

We served up another successful lobster dinner on Sunday, August 1st, 2010.  Here is what Pat Woodworth, who represented our main sponsor Clearwater Seafoods Limited Partnership, had to say about her first time at this event.  "The dinner was wonderful and my family and I really enjoyed it.  I was impressed at how well organized everything flowed from receiving our tickets, to the serving of the food, and then the quick clean-up.  All the food was wonderful and the volunteers were very helpful.  I have attended many events at major hotels in Halifax that weren't run as efficiently as this event."

Folks, if you didn't dine with us this year, make sure you mark your calendar for Sunday, July 31st, 2011.

Thank you to our staff, participants, volunteers, and board members who worked a very long day lifting, cooking, peeling, cracking, serving, cleaning up, etc.

Thank you to our very talented volunteer musicians Ann Theriault and band, George Bryson, and Malcom Boutilier and band.  The music really created a "down on the farm" atmosphere.

Sponsorship is key to the event's success.  Thank you to the following:
Clearwater Fine Foods Limited Partnership - Lobsters, MICCO Companies - Advertising, The Chronicle Herald - Advertising, CKBW - Advertising, Eastlink Television - Advertising, Municipal Enterprises - Tent Sponsor, Cabot Shipping - Tables & Chairs, Farmers Dairy - Milkers/Creamers, Chester Building Supplies - Water, Chester Save Easy - Butter, Price Chopper - Butter, Hubbards Save Easy - Rolls, Haley & Associates - New Signs, Individual Donors - Ticket Printing, and Riverview Meats - Water.

Next year's tickets will go on sale by June 1st, 2011.  Check the website for updates.  Contact Jane Rafuse at 275 - 5622 or jrafuse@bonnyleafarm.ca.

Annual Golf Tournament:

Under suspicious looking clouds, our annual golf tournament got underway at 10:00 a.m.  By noon, the skies opened up and the rain descended onto the fairways and greens stopping play.  The golfers returned to the club house where they received a wonderful meal, prizes, and our thanks for supporting one of our major fund raising events.

For over 20 years, Mr. Jack Flemming (Ocean Contractors) and his team have organized this fantastic event.  Jack shared with us today that his long time friend and fellow honorary Bonny Lea Farm Board member Mrs. Anne Flinn was instrumental in introducing him to the great work done for people with disabilities throughout Nova Scotia right here on the South Shore.  Jack didn’t know anything about golf way back then, but what he did know was how to recruit people.  Golfers come from everywhere to play in this special tournament.  Bonny Lea Farm founder and chair, Dr. Alberta Pew Baker, has spent just as many years overseeing the dinner which the golfers appreciate very much, especially the fresh blueberries and tomatoes.

For the first time in the tournament’s history, Mrs. Barbara Fraughton (Club House Manager) and her team catered the meal. This approach was extremely successful and appreciated by Bonny Lea Farm which allowed us to concentrate our efforts on other ventures that require many volunteer hours.

Next year’s tournament will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2010.  Teams usually register well in advance via Lynn Timmons (Ocean Contractors) at 902-435-1291.
